    About the Event: You are invited to attend the third annual Boston 5th Night Celebration, hosted by The Rashi School. The event will be a fun and simple way for children to participate in Tzedakah by giving one night of Hanukkah gifts to a child in need. Coming together to celebrate and donate will help our children learn how their giving will benefit and impact other children and their families and make the holiday even more meaningful.

    To help the little ones understand the impact of their gift, and to make the experience more fun and personal, we encourage each child to help select a gift for a recipient of a similar age. For the second year in a row, we have partnered with Birthday Wishes, an amazing organization that is dedicated to bringing birthday parties to homeless children.

    After enjoying entertainment, a candle lighting and a light dessert (no dinner), the children will have a chance to personally donate their specially-chosen presents. A Representative from Birthday Wishes will speak briefly to the children, thank them for their gifts, and describe how their donations will impact the recipients and their families. With the little ones in mind, the organization will be sure to keep the presentations very short, and easy to understand.

    Gift Giving Guidelines

    • New, unopened and unwrapped gifts (ages 1-18)
    • One gift per family or per child
    • If your child is old enough to understand, we believe that having him or her pick a gift for a child of the same age or gender will enrich the experience.
    • The organization is in particular need of gifts for 1 years olds (soft blocks, soft balls or any Fisher Price age appropriate toy)

    Benefiting Charity

    Birthday Wishes brings the magic of a birthday party to thousands of homeless children each year. Founded in 2002 as a volunteer organization serving one local shelter, Birthday Wishes has expanded its program to serve more than 165 shelters and transitional living facilities in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Long Island, New York.

    Local Donations

    Camp Micah is a coed summer camp for kids and teens located in Bridgton, Maine. They welcome boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 17 for 4 week and 8 week sessions. Camp Micah is one of the only private Jewish summer camps in the state of Maine.


    Party Favor’s is Brookline’s headquarters for custom designed cakes, pastries and baked goods, as well as party supplies, invitations and favors. Party Favors prides themselves on creating unique cakes to mark special milestones and holidays as well as the everyday.


    Blacker’s Bake Shop is the destination for delicious kosher baked goods in the Newton Area. Run by the Blacker Family since 2008, all products are nut free and dairy free.


    Cheryl Ann’s Bakery of Brookline has been providing Kosher and Pareve Products for over 25 years! Cheryl Ann’s is an 100% dairy and trans fat free bakery.


    Sublime Photo Art is a Boston area photography studio specializing in baby, child, maternity, family and modeling shoots. Sarah Sun is available for lifestyle, commercial and editorial photography.


    Sudbury Farms is a Needham supermarket aiming to offer the highest quality produce and products available. Inside the supermarket, there is a full-service buffet bar, butcher, bakery, flower stand, deli and wine and beer aisle.

    Participating Temples

    Temple Beth Avodah is a Reform Jewish Synogogue tucked away in a beautiful woodsy corner of Newton, Massachusetts serving the Boston, Brookline, West Roxbury, and the greater Newton and Needham Areas for 40 and counting.
